A lookback at WordCamp Europe 2024

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Last month, we had the pleasure of attending our second WordCamp sponsorship event: WordCamp Europe 2024, which took place in Torino, Italy, on June 13-15, 2024.

Omnisend WordCamp Europe

The Omnisend team was already hyped up after attending WordCamp Asia 2024 in Taipei, which we wrote about here.

In fact, we were so excited about going to WC Europe, that we made an entire song to tell the world about it. You can check it out here:

Torino offered us a chance to meet up with the friends and partners we made in WordCamp Asia, as well as to start new relationships. In fact, we felt welcomed back, and more like a good friend or family member.

So, how did the event meet our expectations? Well, in two words:

Above & beyond.

WordPress contribution & the Contributor Day

While everyone in the Omnisend WCEU crew are involved in the WordPress community in one way or another, two are actively contributing weekly hours as part of the Five for the Future initiative.

Milvydas

Milvydas was a member of the WordCamp Europe organizing committee, as part of the Design team. His team helped make the website and general design of the WordCamp.

Bernard

Bernard was a Marketing Table Co-Lead, helping onboard new contributors to the WordPress community, or existing contributors who are new to the Marketing team.

Let’s hear from some of the other members of the WordCamp crew about their impressions of WordCamp Europe 2024.

Žemyna

Attending WordCamp Europe in Torino was an incredible experience for the Omnisend team. To be completely honest, the second WordCamp was a blast. If WordCamp Asia felt like “Who are you?“, WordCamp Europe was more like “Hello, Omnisend people!” It felt so nice to be finally accepted into the WordPress community.

Being recognized by the very people we had planned to connect with was truly rewarding. While it was a bit challenging to meet everyone we wanted to because of the vast number of participants, this also turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We had the opportunity to meet and connect with individuals we hadn’t initially thought of.

We reconnected with some YouTubers we were already working with, and discussed future plans and collaborations. At the same time, we were able to connect with new influencers who hadn’t responded to our emails previously. Meeting in person at WordCamp opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.

Moreover, networking with other companies and engaging in discussions with WordPress professionals was invaluable. We learned a lot, shared ideas, and got to know many new things.

I can’t wait for WordCamp US 2024, as it will be my third flagship event. I’m looking forward to seeing how each flagship differs and to continue building these valuable connections. It’s exciting to experience the unique atmosphere each event offers and to deepen our integration within the WordPress community.

Rokas

WordCamp Europe to me opened some completely new doors in terms of strategic and integration partnerships, and greased some gears with other partners and ongoing initiatives.

With that said, however, planning for a third flagship event (WordCamp US) this year makes parts of that partnership planning go slower, but on the flip side keeps the WordCamp & community spirit at the top of my mind.

We have exciting ideas and things we want to try, and we hope to bring that mentality with us to WordCamp US and future events, to keep learning and inspiring others.

Adelė

I’m still feeling blown away by the warmth, kindness and friendliness of the WordPress community.

I remember my first WordCamp, not knowing what to expect, and basically, being the new kid on the block. Sometimes I can be a bit shy at first, and this is how I was feeling there.

But now, after connecting with WordPress people during the time between my first one, and my second one, I felt that I already have some connections, and I was truly excited to see them. I also met quite a lot of those with whom I chatted with, but didn’t even have the chance to get on a video call with.

Overall, now I truly feel like a part of something bigger — WordCamp really gives that strong community feeling and immerses you into the WordPress space, which starts growing on you even if you don’t have any previous experience with it (being completely honest). But now I see what’s the buzz all about, and I love it

Our Volare giveaway

While only our second sponsored flagship event, for WordCamp Europe 2024 we held a giveaway where one lucker winner would get:

  • A free flight to Vilnius (from anywhere in Europe)
  • Tickets for two for a hot-air balloon ride in Vilnius

Why, you may ask?

Well, did you know that Lithuania (where Omnisend is headquartered, in the capital city of Vilnius) has the highest number of hot-air balloons per capita in the world?

This is a great opportunity for one lucky winner to come check out the place where Omnisend was created and is being grown, as well as the vibrant tech ecosystem.

People loved the creativity of the gift, since they were able to learn a bit more about Omnisend and enjoy a trip to a place (Vilnius) or activity (hot-air balloon trip) they may not have experienced yet.

We’re coming for you, Portland

Our next sponsored flagship event is no other than WordCamp US, happening on September 17-20 in Portland, Oregon.

As is now tradition, we’re going to continue bringing the energy, enthusiasm, networking, and of course email-oriented education to help the WordCamp community truly shine.

And, while our WordCamp Europe music video was certainly a hit with the WordPress community, we’ve got something in the works that we think you’ll love even more!

No, no, no…you’ll have to wait. But once you see it, we know you won’t forget it.

See you in Portland!
